Nepal’s Boxing Triumph at the 13th South Asian Games

Nepal made history in boxing at the 13th South Asian Games (SAG) as Bhupendra Thapa Magar, Minu Gurung and Sanil Shahi secured gold medals for the host nation.

Bhupendra Thapa Magar won the men’s 64 kg category, defeating India’s renowned boxer Manish Kaushik by a 5–0 decision in the final. His victory ended Nepal’s nearly 20-year wait for a men’s boxing gold medal at the South Asian Games and marked his first international gold medal.

Meanwhile, Minu Gurung claimed gold in the women’s 54 kg category, defeating India’s Shiksha in the final. Her victory was historic as she became the first Nepali female boxer to win a gold medal at the South Asian Games.

Sanil Shahi completed Nepal's boxing gold-medal sweep by winning the men's 67 kg category. He defeated India's Varinder Singh in the final, securing Nepal's gold medal of the 13th SAG.

The three victories marked a significant milestone for Nepali boxing and demonstrated the strength of Nepal’s boxing team on home soil.
